Introduction
Fiverr, one of the world’s largest online marketplaces for freelance services, has been accused of supporting the Israeli government’s policies and actions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Founded in 2010 by Micha Kaufman and Shai Wininger, Fiverr is based in Tel Aviv, Israel, and has over 2.5 million active buyers and sellers.
Fiverr’s Financial Standing
Fiverr is a publicly traded company that reported a revenue of $337.37 million in 2022. As a company operating in Israel, Fiverr pays corporate tax to the Israeli government, which amounted to approximately $77.6 million at the 23% tax rate in 2023. The Israeli government uses its tax revenue to fund its military and security operations, including the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), which have been widely condemned for human rights violations against Palestinians.
Fiverr’s Founders
Fiverr’s founders, Micha Kaufman and Shai Wininger, are both outspoken Zionists who openly endorse the Israeli government and its policies. Zionism is a nationalist ideology that supports the establishment and preservation of a Jewish state in Palestine, often at the expense of the rights and interests of the indigenous Palestinian population.
Shai Wininger’s Disturbing Perspective on Palestinian Protests and Propaganda for the IDF
Shai Wininger has recently dismissed peaceful protesters who demand an end to the Israeli occupation and oppression of Palestinians as ‘Hamas supporters.’ Wininger’s retweet, below, implies that anyone who sympathizes with the Palestinian cause is a supporter of violence.
Wininger has also been spreading propaganda by portraying the IDF as a humanitarian force, despite the countless amounts of evidence of its involvement in war crimes and atrocities against Palestinians. Wininger’s tweet praises the IDF despite conducting a live genocide; the IDF has killed thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians, including children, in airstrikes, raids, and shootings. The IDF are barbaric; they torture hostages and detain people under administrative detention without charge or trial and leave them malnutrition and abused, something Hamas cannot be accused of.
Conclusion
Fiverr’s involvement with Israel and its support for the Israeli government and IDF are sources of controversy and criticism. The company’s revenue has been growing steadily in recent years, and it pays taxes in Israel. While there is no evidence to suggest that Fiverr has any affiliation with the IDF, the company’s co-founders and CEO are staunch Zionist who supports the Israeli government. They share Israeli propaganda to deceive people and sugarcoat the Israeli Forces despite their savagery.
